Long Island Radio & Television Historical Society

LIRTVHS DESCRIPTION: The Long Island Radio & Television Historical Society seeks to reflect a broader interest in the rich and diverse history of communications on Long Island from early wireless through the beginnings of radio and television. Through the years the society has exhibited in libraries, the Long Island Maritime Museum, schools and the Fire Island Lighthouse. The mission of LIRTVHS is to collect, preserve and interpret artifacts, biographical information, architectural, cultural and historical matters pertaining to the development of radio and TV technology on Long Island NY. As a result, we endeavor to promote awareness of Long Island's vast contribution to the medium of wireless.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: "INVISIBLE THREADS" is a documentary about the Telefunken Wireless Station in West Sayville, NY which became the communications center of an international spy ring in the lead-up to WWI. The film will also explore the development of wireless technology on Long Island at the time, featuring Nikola Tesla in Shoreham and Guglielmo Marconi in Babylon. The documentary is being directed by  "Tower to the People" filmmaker Joseph Sikorski.
