Historical Society of Greater Port Jefferson

The Historical Society of Greater Port Jefferson is pleased to announce that a grant request to the Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation has been awarded.  The Historical Society has received a 50% matching grant to support the Historical Society’s project to replace the cedar shingle roof on the Mather Museum complex’s Marine Barn and Tool Shed, both historic and significant buildings.  The Historical Society must match this amount.  The Museum Complex includes the historic home of John T. Mather, shipbuilder, as well as other historic buildings.

The roofs on both buildings are very old and have deteriorated to the point of leaking. While the roofs have been maintained over time, they now have reached the critical point of replacement.

The Historical Society of Greater Port Jefferson is very fortunate and grateful that the Robert David Gardiner Foundation is partnering with them to preserve the historic buildings at the Mather Complex and thank them for their support.
