The historical society was organized in 1961 and has established its home in a small 1861 bayman’s cottage on South Main Street.  The Society’s collections include textiles, maritime artifacts, military objects, glass negatives, photographs, books, furniture, music scores, vintage toys, and ephemera.  More notable objects in the collections include Village of Freeport police records, cemetery records, local 1898 and 1912 census records, and tax maps.
