The Gardiner Foundation is supporting the development of a series of heritage tours by Long Island Traditions that will be part of the TravelStorys app (https://www.travelstorys.com/). The tours will explore Long Island’s maritime culture and ethnic heritage, through stories collected by Long Island Traditions.  Stops will include the Scopinich boat yard in Freeport, south shore bay houses, the site of the former Promised Land Fish Company, and African American historical sites.  Unlike guided tours, Long Island Back Story allows the visitor, at their own pace, to hear firsthand from tradition bearers about the places featured on the tour, with historic and contemporary photographs.  This project is also supported by the NY State Council on the Arts.
