Brooklyn Historical Society

The RDLG Foundation awarded the Brooklyn Historical Society a $1.2 million grant to support a project that will exponentially increase public access to the institution’s vast collection of Long Island materials through processing, cataloging, conservation, digitization, and the creation of a web-based Long Island History Portal. This initiative will also extend the useful life of these materials, as they are regularly accessed for research and used throughout exhibitions, K-12+ education programming, and public programs. Finally, through the implementation of a digital preservation system, this project will enable BHS to aggregate digital assets into a single digital repository, making archival and museum collections accessible to a broader audience of smaller institutions and individuals interested in Long Island history.
